CREATe–the RCUK Centre for Copyright and New Business Models in the Creative Economy, based at the University of Glasgow–hosted an Early Career Research Camp on 4th & 5th May 2017, which took place at the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow city centre. The purpose of this event was to exchange useful knowledge gained though CREATe-affiliated projects, to impart strategies for successful career progression (both in academia and industry), and to map out and launch an affiliate research network for junior researchers.
Several UK-based early career researchers, including advanced PhD students, benefited from the collective expertise of senior UK and international scholars in intellectual property law, innovation policy, economics and social science.
Over the course of the two-day event, participants organised themselves into teams to develop a research proposal on a creative economy theme. The proposals were presented at the end of the event, and judged by a panel consisting of senior researchers and experts from the CREATe consortium.
The winner of a £1000 prize to support further research activities was the group “Black Letter Bandits”, formed by Dr Elena Dan (CEIPI, Strasbourg), Dr Natalia Lukaszewicz (Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, Munich), Dr Isabelle Risner (University of Westminster), Dr Emile Douilhet (University of Bournemouth) and Mr Fabio Rocha (University of Edinburgh). The winning project, “The Impact of Do-it-yourself YouTube Tutorials on Business Models”, can be supported by CREATe if the group decides to develop it.
