Participation in workshops a precursor to the upcoming 12th Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Accounting conference being hosted by CAS in Edinburgh next year.

The leading interdisciplinary journal Accounting, Organizations and Society (AOS) has recently conducted two international workshops in which members and affiliates from the Centre for Accounting and Society (CAS) were actively engaged.

  • In December 2016, the third ‘FRASOP’ workshop, focusing on Financial Reporting and Auditing as Social and Organisational Practice, took place at the London School of Economics (LSE). At this prestigious workshop event, which takes place every two or three years, attention is given to interdisciplinary perspectives in the study of financial accounting. At the workshop, CAS member Shaul Hayoun presented his paper on the conceptualization of contemporary fair value measurement practices through an alternative value framework, i.e. semiotics. More details on the workshop and the papers presented can be found on .
  • In April 2017, another AOS workshop took place at the University of Leicester and this time the specific theme was Valuation, Technology and Society. Given that the theme of valuation and evaluation is gaining more interest in various areas of the social sciences, this event surfaced certain potential implications of such trends for the disciplines of accounting and social studies of finance. With a focus on the latter, two colleagues from the University of Edinburgh’s Social Studies of Finance Group, Dr. Taylor Spears and Olivier Ah-Hot, presented their research on the sociological history of Credit Valuation Adjustment (CVA) and arbitrage technologies in convertible bond markets, respectively. More details on this workshop and the presentations can be found on .

As a leading research centre, CAS encourages engagement with the relevant academic communities in all phases of the research and publication cycle. Our involvement in these workshops and other recent events serve as a perfect ‘appetiser’ to the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Accounting Conference (IPA) to be hosted by CAS in Edinburgh in July 2018.
