The hour-and-a-half session critically discussed the role of academic impact and showed how citation scores can be improved using various techniques and online sources such as academia.edu and research gate.
The role of academic impact (and citations in particular) is becoming increasingly important in academia. Academics now have to carefully plan projects and actively influence citations of their good work. Citation scores may also be considered for recruitment, tenure and promotion decisions. The seminar will therefore cover the following topics: Why are citations important, what are potential problems with relying on citations (only), which metrics are available, and, most importantly, how can academics improve their citation scores?
