This ESRC-funded seminar series, co-organised by Dr Tina Kowalski (PI) and Professor Wendy Loretto at the University of Edinburgh Business School, and Professor Tom Redman from Durham university, sets out to bring together a range of multi-disciplinary stakeholders to explore the sustainability of employee well-being in the 21st century. Nine seminars will run across five different UK locations (Edinburgh, Sheffield, Manchester, London and Durham).

The launch event of the series, held in December, 2013 was a great success and brought together multi-disciplinary speakers (Dr Neil Thin- anthropology; Professor Andrew Clark – Economics, Professor Rob Briner – occupational psychology and Ed Cochrane – practitioner) to explore how well-being is conceptualised within and across disciplines.

The second seminar in Manchester earlier this year saw a successful collaboration with the British Academy of Management HRM Special Interest Group and focused specifically on HR and well-being. A series of stimulating papers were presented over the two days with keynote presentations made by Professor Ros Searle, Professor Gail Kinman, Professor Tom Redman and Professor Jaap Pauuwe.

Registration is now open for what is set to be another stimulating and though-provoking event on Friday 5th September in London. The theme of the seminar is ‘Sustaining employee well-being: organisational issues and interventions’. Emma Donaldson-Feilder will present on the role of line managers in improving well-being at work, Professor Ivan Robertson will present a blend of research and practice, drawing on case study examples and Ben Willmott (Senior Public Policy Advisor, Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development) who will examine mental health at work in light of research conducted in partnership with MIND, the mental health charity.
