Complex Problems Workshop
Dr Stephen Harwood will again be running a workshop introducing the Cybernetic Methodology, a framework for solving problems when the problem itself is undefined, to PhD students which was very well received last year. The methodology is particularly useful for PhD students using qualitative research methods from an inductive perspective, but was also well received by quantitative and deductive researchers. The workshop will run across two days, 28th March and 11th April, and is limited to 10 people. For more information and to register contact James Dunn: james.dunn@ed.ac.uk

Edinburgh Marathon Festival
Run PhD student, run!
2014 is still young, but hopefully you are still following your (healthy) New Year’s resolutions.
This year a number of PhD colleagues have signed up for the 5km, 10km or half-marathon at the EMF2014, and the DocSocUEBS wants to actively support the runners and aims to raise money for charity.
The EMF2014 offers to run 5k, 10k and the half-marathon (21 km). Entry for the full marathon is now closed.
It does not matter whether you are new to running or are a professional runner. The marathon is about having a great time together during training sessions and other social activities and ultimately running as a group in the marathon in May.
Together we can run for a good cause!
