Having embarked on a career in consultancy, Ashley shares how her degree has given her the confidence and skills to succeed in her first role.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School?
The Business School has such a lovely sense of authenticity in its culture. In every interaction I have had with faculty from pre-application through to graduation and beyond I have always felt there is a genuine desire for me to succeed and true care for my wellbeing.
Tell us about your career path after graduating?
I have started my career in consultancy with Deloitte LLP where I am currently a functional analyst working in technology and strategy transformation. Since starting in this role I have had the opportunity to work with global corporations in large scale transformations.
How has your degree prepared you for your career so far?
My degree prepared me with a number of skills which I use in consultancy. Building confidence in presenting to an audience has been essential to my role. Working in groups taught me how to effectively navigate different personalities of team members in projects to reach the best outcome.
What key thing that you learnt at the Business School have your found most useful?
Timekeeping and managing various classes and extra-curricular activities have prepared me for consultancy the most as there are always multiple commitments within my role to juggle.
What is your proudest work-related achievement to date?
My proudest achievement has been delivering a workshop to C-suite executives for a project which I took ownership of from end-to-end. The project manager has now asked me to join on a new engagement with this client due to the success of this work.
Alumni wisdom - if you could offer one piece of advice to current students, what would it be?
Don’t treat your degree like a tick box exercise. Think about your studies as an opportunity to build yourself as a professional and become a well-rounded individual.
