Andy MacMillan has come full circle since graduating with his 91´óÉñ in 2003, as he returned to Edinburgh in 2019 to open the first European base for his Silicon Valley based company, UserTesting.
How does it feel to be selected for the Alumni 100 list?
"Humbling. It is a world class university that has been teaching business for 100 years. To be even considered for this list is an honour."
What made you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School?
"I was looking to transition from a technical, software developer role into product management and felt a world-class, international 91´óÉñ would help me in that transition."
What are your memories of studying at the Business School?
"I remember being extremely impressed with the quality of my classmates and that it was an eye-opening experience for me to understand how business practices and business cultures differed so much around the world."
What key thing that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?
"Beyond the core business training in finance, strategy, and operation (which I use daily), I learnt a tremendous amount about decision making and the international aspects of business."
Proudest work-related achievement to date?
"I'm proudest of the team of people that I work with today that have chosen to work with me multiple times across multiple different companies. We've built a world-class team that trusts each other and holds ourselves to the highest standards while repeatedly achieving strong results."
What's the one thing you think current students need to develop or learn before entering the modern workplace?
"Adaptability. The world and our industries change quickly now. You need to be resilient to change."
