With both finance and teaching experience, Anggita has found that mentoring a current Business School student has been a way of staying connected to the University and the city she loves.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School?

I chose Edinburgh because of its international reputation, including its affiliation as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Programme Partner. I also found that the University of Edinburgh Business School was very welcoming with international students and that is the kind of environment that I was looking for. Finally, the city itself. It is hard not to love Edinburgh!

Tell us about your career path (before and) after graduating?

Prior to my MSc, I worked at Coca-Cola as a Management Trainee and ultimately as a Demand Planner. After graduating, I gained several years of combined experiences at PwC, Kraft Heinz and SC Johnson, with my role at the latter as Brand Manager for insecticide products.

I then moved into teaching and I am currently a Lecturer in Finance and Management at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, at the Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia.

How did your degree prepare you for your future career?

My MSc degree certainly gave me the confidence to pursue a career in finance. Coming from a non-finance background for my bachelor degree, I was at disadvantage in terms of securing a finance job in Indonesia. After all, it's always better to do what you love and get paid for it.

What key thing that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?

Resilience. My University of Edinburgh Business School student experiences have given me the drive to keep going even when things become difficult. It helps me to discover things that I never knew (but turns out I'm quite good at it).

What is your proudest work related achievement to date?

During 2017 and 2018, I led a national project to commercially launch a new home insecticide product for SC Johnson. I am proud to see it still being sold today.

Tell us about any recent involvement with the Business School and what you have gained from being involved?

Over the past few months, I have been mentoring an undergraduate student as part of the Edinburgh Award for Effective and Responsible Leadership. My mentee asked me to share some career advice, in addition to some tips on negotiation and networking. I love how the programme was able to keep me engaged with the Business School by connecting me with a current student.

Never doubt yourself, you might be surprised at what you can do.
