Shelly-Ann Gajadhar
MSc International Business and Emerging Markets 2015
Alumni 100CEO and Founder, Alphastute Ltd
After spending three years working as a State Prosecutor in Trinidad and Tobago, Shelly-Ann decided to shift from from law to business and pursue further study at the Business School.
How does it feel to be selected for the Alumni 100 list?
"Humbling. The University of Edinburgh Business School produces some of the most sought after and impactful graduates. Superbly honoured to be selected out of a community of game changers and trailblazers."
What made you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School?
"Its programme offering took a unique approach, something I had not seen from the more generic options offered by its competitors. This unique programme and its world reputation for research made it an obvious 'yes' for me."
What are your memories of studying at the Business School?
"I loved studying and writing up my thesis at the library! I also have fond memories of the many group projects I worked on. Though tough, the experience taught me so much about teamwork and respect for others."
What key thing that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?
"Liabilities of foreignness! Running a virtual company has reminded me of the relevance of this term. We may not be based in one specific location but we must be agile and ready to quickly adapt to the additional costs and learning curves we will incur to achieve global reach."
Proudest work-related achievement to date?
"The Alumni 100 selection of course! But also, building Alphastute from the ground up while pursuing my doctorate and, impacting over 350 lives in the space of one year since our launch."
What's the one thing you think current students need to develop or learn before entering the modern workplace?
"Know your strengths, then tell people about them. The world only knows what you have to offer when you announce it. Do it well and make it known."
