Professor Richard Harrison, Dr Xi Liang and Dr Graham Winkelman provided perspectives on this theme for a special event in Beijing in December.

The development of a low carbon economy poses a number of challenges and opportunities which must be addressed in order to achieve a fully functioning innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem. This was the theme for a special alumni event and dinner hosted at our partner institution, Peking University’s Guanghua School of Management, in early December.

Professor Richard Harrison and Dr Xi Liang (Senior Lecturer in Energy Finance), along with Dr Graham Winkelman (Practice Lead, Climate Change of BHP Billiton) provided both academic and industry perspectives.

It was a well-attended event with over 70 alumni from both the Business School and the wider University of Edinburgh alumni network. The event was formally opened by Sir Timothy O’Shea, Principal of the University of Edinburgh. Also attending were Professor Natascha Gentz (Assistant Principal China), Professor Lei Ming and Chen Liming (CEO of IBM Greater China).

The event combined talks from academics and industry partners, followed by dinner, drinks and networking.

It culminated in a full day of UEBS-led engagement activities at Peking University, which included the awarding of an honorary professorship to the Founding Dean of Guanghua School of Management, Professor Li Yining.
