Reflecting on a Year at University and a Pandemic

Dear University of Edinburgh Friends,

I'm an MSc student doing my full-time one-year programme. I'm so sorry we had to leave without even having had a chance to say a proper goodbye. It's sad that this pandemic happened, and it's frustrating. I had been dreaming of studying abroad all my life, and it felt like I picked the wrong year to do so. However, I feel the need to let you know that it's still been the best year of my life, and I'm grateful that I met all of you. Every one of you is a part of my favourite memories. Thank you for your friendship, help, and support throughout the year.

I'm grateful to have had the chance to be the Fintech programme representative. Working with my colleagues has been a pleasant and memorable experience. I found it surprisingly easy to get feedback on the student experience and I appreciate all those students who opened up to me about issues they were encountering, and trusted me to raise them on their behalf. Friendship and trust are priceless to me, and you gave me that.

Thank you to the Fintech Society and Thai Society. It's awesome that we finally made the Fintech Society happen, and that future students will be able to benefit from it! The Thai Society always made me feel at home. Unfortunately I was not able to participate as much as I would have liked, but I really enjoyed being part of this community. Thank you for all the fun and memorable experiences and I look forward to keeping connected.

I'm grateful for all the university staff and my accommodation mates: thank you for all the help, support, and activities that you organised. Although this year has ended so differently to how we expected, the first half of my time here was definitely better than I expected, and even in the second half amid the unprecedented situation, I appreciate your effort to ensure we felt connected, not abandoned.

All of you will always have a place in my heart, and I hope we will one day meet and have fun together again.

With love,
Immy
