I am now months into this new chapter of my life, and I have come to realise that the University of Edinburgh Business School is not just a School, but a community β€” a community of many amazing people who will not only support you on your journey, but will also make it a memorable experience!
Getting to know everyone during Welcome Week
This is my first time studying abroad, and I was really eager and excited to attend all the Welcome Week fairs and Fresher's events. The campus atmosphere was vibrant and energetic, buzzing with students from all over the world. Many activities were hosted, both online and offline β€” be it dealing with our mental health to a barbecue in The Meadows.
The Student Development team hosted an event called "Edinburgh in Context" where students from all over the Business School were divided into groups of 4 or 5, and had to go around the whole city doing various tasks and collecting points. This was such a fun activity that helped me break the ice with my peers and make some exciting memories.
An incredible city
As a Master's student, I realised that while academics are at the centre of my experience, there are also many other opportunities and offerings from the Business School to help students grow β€” both personally and professionally.
This was overwhelming initially but in a very positive way. The Student Development team are very helpful and approachable. They push you to get out of your comfort zone in a supportive and non-intimidating way. They created such a warm environment that has put international students like me at comfort and ease.
More than studying: personal and professional development
The Business School is centrally located, surrounded by The Meadows, George Square, small cafes, and pubs. Overall, it is a perfect blend of campus life and city life (this was one of the main reasons I chose this University!).
Edinburgh is also quite cultural and has lots to see and do. I have explored various places in the city. Some of my favourites were seeing the sunset at Calton Hill, the panoramic views from the Castle on the Royal Mile (and yes, I do not plan to visit the Castle until I complete my exams, haha), picnics in The Meadows, and cycling along the Water of Leith.
The beginning is usually the most exciting part of a journey, but after living in Edinburgh for over two months now, I am confident my entire year is going to be adventurous.
I already see myself growing from the diverse perspectives of my classmates and other enriching experiences this School and city has to offer. I am glad that I decided to study at the University of Edinburgh because, honestly, it has everything I could ask for!
