From special milestones to student successes—we have a lot to look forward to in 2019!
Things we're looking forward to - Dragon's Glen team

1. Preparing students for the Fintech boom

The UK’s financial tech sector is about to break through in a big way, and so we're supporting students into the industry with a new Masters in Fintech and Policy. It’s always exciting to work with industry to shape a new programme—and we’re delighted to have been able to collaborate with FinTech Scotland to create a Master's that will prepare our students for the global challenges facing financial markets and firms. We are looking forward to welcoming these bright new minds to the School to debate areas such as the Ethics of AI, and Machine Learning.

2. Networking Trek to NYC

We know how much our students love to travel, and this year our Finance students are in for a real treat as we head to New York for a career and finance trek. Programme Director, Ben Sila, is pulling together the final schedule; students will get a better insight into the financial service firms that operate there, and have the opportunity to network with and learn from alumni working in the area. If you’re an alum in New York and would like to get involved, let Ben know.

3. Someone’s Celebrating a Special Anniversary

And it’s the Business School! Yes, next year we are celebrating 100 years of business education at the University of Edinburgh. If you think about the number of great minds that have travelled to Edinburgh from around the world to spend time learning and teaching with us over the years, it is truly something to behold. We’re grateful to have been part of your journey, and we look forward to celebrating alumni achievements great and small, past and present, in 2019.

4. Fiddles and Flying Scotsmen

January can sometimes seem like a bit of a slow month once the festivities are out of the way. But not at the Business School, where we are always excited to kick off the New Year with our annual Alumni Burns Gala Dinner. There will be kilts and haggis, drams and dancing and lots of smiles and laughter – we can’t wait. Are you joining us?

5. A New Way to Tour Edinburgh

This year’s Dragons Glen team have been bringing a chilled sense of calm to the Business School with a series of yoga workshops in the concourse, whilst raising money for Children’s First. Their key product this year, however, is a fantastic Scratch Map of Edinburgh, which raised over £500 in the first 48 hours of going on sale. Give them a follow to show your support and follow their journey over the next few months as they work towards their target of £5K.

These are just some of the things that we’re looking forward to in the New Year!
