Not going home this Christmas break? Don’t worry!
With Edinburgh already showing signs of a white Christmas, you will feel like you are in a wonderland! Here are my 5 top things you must do this December.
1. The Christmas Market
Located near the Scott Museum at Princes Street, this beautiful, enchanted Christmas market is totally Instagram-worthy and has something for everyone. Walk up to the busy street bustling with happy festive smiles and be amazed by the Christmas décor, food, rides, games and more!
Open from 10:00 to 22:00 until 4 January 2022, this busy market has everything you want. From a widespread of sizzling hot dogs, churros, piping hot chocolate, to games, candies, and rides.
Make sure you get on the Forth 1 Big Wheel and soak in the beautiful sights of the city in the night, covered in dazzling lights! If you are sceptical about the weather, do not worry. The wheel has enclosed shuttles that will keep you away from the biting cold.
2. The Nutcracker Ballet
Head over to Festival Theatre, right next to Old College and sit back and enjoy the famous Nutcracker Ballet! There are a series of show bookings available until 31 December 2021. Head over to their Box Office and book the one that suits you best! With the performance lasting for 2 hours and 20 minutes, indulge in this festive treat.
3. Christmas movie? Yes, please!
What screams festivities more than a hot cup of cocoa with marshmallows and a Christmas movie! Go back to the classics or scroll through Netflix for some new releases this season. There have been quite a lot of movies this year and I can’t wait to sit back and binge-watch on most of them, if not all.
4. Royal Botanic Garden
Book tickets to the Royal Botanic Garden for some festive frenzy! Take a walk in the garden and be amazed by its beauty and string of lights making it look truly magical. With its mesmerising views on display, grab your favourite snack, and a delicious hot beverage to keep you warm and cosy.
5. Ice-skating
Ice-skating? Sign me up! Strap on a pair of skates and head over to George Street where you will spot a beautiful ice rink to skate away. The ice rink is open until 2 January 2022, so make sure you book your slot before going there. The price of the ticket? £6 for 45 minutes! Great, isn’t it?
These are some things I found would be very interesting to do during this time of the year. There are so many other festive events you can attend and be a part of.
